Today Marks the Anniversary of Johnny Cash's Death. Hear his vocals from his last ever recording HURT
US singer songwriter Johnny Cash died of respiratory failure aged 71 on this day in 2003. He was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, and was known as "The Man in Black."
In 2002, Johnny Cash covered "Hurt", originally a Nine Inch Nails song, to commercial and critical acclaim. He covered the song in a different way to the original for his wife. The related music video is considered one of the greatest of all time by publications such as NME. Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its "sincerity and meaning," going so far as to say "that song isn't mine anymore."
