On Neil Peart's Anniversary we listen to one of his most famous drumming tracks
This week marks the anniversary of the death of Neil Peart who died on 7th of January 2020. He was best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the rock band Rush.
Peart earned numerous awards for his musical performances, including an induction into the Modern Drummer Readers Poll Hall of Fame in 1983 at the age of thirty, making him the youngest person ever so honoured. Known to fans by the nickname 'The Professor', his drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina.
"Tom Sawyer" was originally released on their 1981 album Moving Pictures as its opener. The band's lead singer, bassist, and keyboardist, Geddy Lee, has referred to the track as the band's "defining piece ... from the early '80s". It is one of Rush's best-known songs and a staple of both classic rock radio and Rush's live performances.
